A Ubume is the disembodied spirit of a Japanese woman who died in childbirth. They try to find living people fit to care for their children and lead them to where their child is hidden, hoping the child will be accepted into society. They also have been said to buy sweets and foods for their children using coins that, later on, prove to be nothing more than dead leaves.
