Spiny is a sub-species of Koopa and a recurring enemy in the Super Mario video game series. These creatures are commonly hatched from eggs thrown by Lakitu; when Mario appears, the Lakitu will start bombarding the area below with Spiny eggs that hatch upon impact. Spinys will simply move about to and fro and surround Mario, who is unable to jump on them thanks to the spikes covering their shells. While they cannot be jumped on, Spinys are vulnerable to fireballs and other projectiles such as Koopa shells.
