Monsterland is an enormous island which appears in Toho Company’s 1968 monster movie Destroy All Monsters.

A large volcanic landmass located in the South Pacific’s Ogasawara chain, Monsterland played host to the world’s monsters. Boasting a state-of-the-art underground research and observation lab with which to study the various kaiju inhabiting the island, Monsterland was constructed after a nuclear blast caused the monster’s old home of Monster Island to sink beneath the ocean.
History[]
When Monster Island was destroyed, humans selected a suitable location for a new containment site and began construction of the Monsterland facility. It was quickly completed, and soon played host to all of Earth’s monsters, who lived quite happily in harmony with each other.
However, when the evil Kilaaks invaded they used their mind control devices to enslave both the scientific staff and all of the kaiju in the island. Ultimately, the Kilaaks’ plan failed and humanity were able to free Earth’s monsters to do battle with King Ghidorah who was in league with the aliens, but the facility was badly damaged in the process. After the abortive invasion, Earth’s monsters were rounded up and re-settled on Monsterland to resume their peaceful existence.
