Loch ness monster

The Loch Ness Monster is a cryptid beast that was first brought to the world's attention in 1933, though historical writings from as early as the 6th century have hinted toward the existence of such a creature. This monster is suspected to inhabit the waters of Loch Ness in the highlands of Scotland and is commonly believed to be a descendant of some kind of dinosaur (specifically a plesiosaur) that managed to survive the ancient cataclysm that destroyed the dinosaurs over 65 million years ago. Sightings of "Nessie" as it has come to be known have thus far all been disproved as false, but belief in the creature's existence perseveres.

In Popular Culture Edit

Films Edit

  • Scooby-Doo! and the Loch Ness Monster is a full feature length animation from 2004, and centres around the Highland Games taking place at the fictitious 'Blake Castle' (based loosely on Urquhart Castle), but being troubled by Nessie. Three separate fakes are revealed, but the real Nessie is strongly implied to still be there.

Television Edit

  • The Simpsons had an episode in which Mr Burns tried to capture Nessie, enlisting the help of Groundskeeper Willie and Professor Frink, eventually draining Loch Ness altogether (and flooding a nearby town in the process) in his efforts to find it. A fake is found in the empty lake, but the real Nessie then turns up, leading to Mr Burns' success in shipping Nessie to the USA, where it ends up working in a casino.
    • In the Laff-A-lympics, Scooby is challenged to get a photo of Nessie.
    • On The Scooby-Doo Show in the episode "A Highland Fling with a Monstrous Thing".
