The Kongamato is a cryptid said to originate from Western Zambia. It was first documented in 1923 by Frank Melland, author of the book Witchbound Africa, who describes the beast as something resembling the prehistoric pterodactyl, with large webbed wings and a reddish colouration but lacking any typical avian plumage. The name "kongamato" translates to "breaker of boats"; numerous eyewitness accounts of this creature place it in the skies over lakes and marshlands where the creatures have supposedly attacked fishermen and hunters from indigenous tribes.
