Godzilla Junior (ゴジラジュニア, Gojira Jyunia), also called Little One or just Junior, is the adopted son of Godzilla in the Heisei series of films that first appears in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 in 1993 and eventually takes his father's place as King of the Monsters at the end of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
As a hatchling, Junior resembles a small version of Godzilla with blue skin, a gray underbelly, small dorsal plates, and large eyes. As a toddler, Junior looks like Minilla, with a chubby build, green skin, a yellow underbelly, and large eyes. As a sub-adult, Junior closely resembles Godzilla, only shorter, hunched over, and with green skin, a yellow underbelly, and smaller dorsal plates. As an adult, Junior looks identical to Godzilla.
Godzilla Junior's egg was laid by a Godzillasaurus on Adonoa Island in the Bering Sea millions of years ago. The egg was stolen by a pteranodon and taken to its nest. Millions of years later, one of the irradiated pteranodon eggs in the nest hatched into Rodan, who looked after the Godzillasaurus egg like his own brother. Godzilla arrived on the island looking to claim the egg as his own and fought Rodan for it. Later, Rodan realized that the creature inside of the egg was of Godzilla's species and not his own, so he sacrificed himself to save Godzilla from Mechagodzilla 2. Godzilla then adopted the baby as his own son.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2Edit
A team of Japanese and Russian scientists traveled to the radioactively contaminated Adonoa Island in the Bering Sea to investigate the supposed uncovering of a pteranodon nest. Professor Omae and his assistant Azusa Gojo uncovered an intact egg in the nest and prepared to take it back to Japan but their camp was attacked by Rodan. Omae and his team ran toward the coastline, only to witness Godzilla rise from the ocean. Godzilla came ashore on the island in search of the egg, from which he had picked up telepathic signals. Rodan attacked Godzilla and the two monsters battled. The scientists managed to escape with the egg in the confusion. The egg was brought to an institute in Kyoto, Japan to be studied by Azusa Gojo. The creature inside of the egg imprinted on Azusa as its own mother and grew afraid whenever she left the laboratory. Eventually, the egg hatched into a baby Godzillasaurus, an unmutated member of Godzilla's species. BabyGodzilla, as Azusa named the hatchling, was very gentle and submissive to Azusa. Unfortunately, Baby's presence attracted Godzilla to the Kyoto area. Mechagodzilla was sent to battle Godzilla, but was defeated. Godzilla reached the institute in Kyoto in order to find Baby. The humans hid Baby in the building's basement until Godzilla gave up and left. Baby was moved to a secure facility to be studied while Azusa continued to watch over him. G-Force scientists studied Baby's anatomy and discovered that he possessed a nerve bundle in his lower body that controlled leg function, meaning that Godzilla likely possessed a similar structure. G-Force developed a plan code-named "G-Crusher." Baby to be was transported by helicopter to a remote island in the Ogasawara chain to serve as a decoy to lure Godzilla. Mechagodzilla would then be sent to the island and destroy Godzilla's sacral "brain," crippling him. Mechagodzilla would then finish the helpless Godzilla. Azusa insisted on accompanying Baby, and rode with him in a canister that was lifted by the helicopter. Along the way, the helicopter was destroyed by Fire Rodan, who grabbed the canister and tried to break it open. Mechagodzilla arrived and attacked Rodan, mortally wounding him after a fierce battle. Godzilla arrived shortly after and resumed his battle with his mechanical double. Mechagodzilla combined with the Garuda warship and became Super-Mechagodzilla. Using its shock anchor cables, Mechagodzilla destroyed Godzilla's secondary brain and crippled him. While Mechagodzilla blasted the downed Godzilla to death, Baby broke free from the canister and roared loudly in distress, drawing Rodan's attention. After seeing that the hatchling from the egg was of Godzilla's species and not his own, Rodan realized what he must do. Rodan flew into the battle to save Godzilla, but was shot down by Mechagodzilla. Rodan fell onto Godzilla's motionless body and gave up his life force to revive Godzilla. Godzilla was resurrected with increased power and proceeded to destroy Mechagodzilla out of rage for Rodan's death. Azusa realized that Baby belonged with his own kind and bid farewell to him. Baby pitifully pulled on Azusa's clothes and tried to stay with her, but she tearfully embraced him and said goodbye. Baby was left alone, but the psychic Miki Saegusa communicated with him, telling him he must go with Godzilla. Godzilla looked down at the much smaller infant and roared gently. Baby finally decided to go with Godzilla and the two monsters left for the ocean.
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzillaEdit
Godzilla raised BabyGodzilla as his own son and the two relocated to Birth Island off the coast of Japan. Exposure to Godzilla's radiation mutated Baby and stunted his natural growth. Now a toddler, BabyGodzilla was given the name Little Godzilla. While Godzilla was away, Little Godzilla was free to roam the island in peace. Little Godzilla took a fondness to the G-Force soldier Akira Yuki, who was sent to the island to kill Godzilla. Despite his intense hatred of Godzilla, Yuki tolerated the Little One. A detachment of other G-Force operatives arrived on the island to undertake a project to try and telepathically control Godzilla. Yuki still intended to kill Godzilla, so he set up tear gas mines near the shoe, hoping to stun Godzilla so he could kill him with a special bullet he designed. Little Godzilla accidentally wandered too close to the mines and set them off, much to Yuki's dismay. Little Godzilla wandered toward the interior of the island, where strange crystal formations were appearing. Suddenly, a giant crystalline meteor crashed into Birth Island and revealed itself as SpaceGodzilla. Little Godzilla approached the monster curiously, but was viciously attacked by the evil creature. Little Godzilla's distress drew his adopted father to the island. Godzilla arrived and huddled over Little Godzilla to protect him from SpaceGodzilla's attacks. Eventually, the bombardment from SpaceGodzilla's corona beam was too much and Godzilla fell over. Little Godzilla tried to make his father get up, but was abducted by SpaceGodzilla and placed in a crystal prison. Godzilla rose to his feet and pursued SpaceGodzilla to Japan. After Godzilla defeated SpaceGodzilla in Fukuoka with the help of M.O.G.U.E.R.A., Little Godzilla was freed from the crystal prison. Godzilla left Japan and returned to Birth Island to live with his son in peace.
Godzilla vs. DestoroyahEdit
After a nuclear chain reaction destroyed Birth Island in a massive explosion, the Little One was presumed dead. However, G-Force scientists noticed a large number of whales being killed in the oceans near Japan, suggesting that the Little One was possibly behind it. Finally, Godzilla's son surfaced near a beach in Japan, but now as a sub-adult. Godzilla Junior, as G-Force Commander Aso called him, continued to swim to the Bering Sea, the place of his birth. G-Force found that Godzilla was following Junior, hoping to reunite with him at the Bering Sea. Given Godzilla's impending meltdown, it was known that he would never reach the Bering Sea. In order to destroy Godzilla before he melted down, G-Force proposed a desperate plan: use Junior to lure Godzilla to Tokyo, where he would fight and hopefully be killed by the new monster Destoroyah. Miki Saegusa used her psychic powers to lure Godzilla Junior to Tokyo. When Junior came ashore, he was immediately attacked by Destoroyah in its flying form. Junior blasted Destoroyah with his atomic breath, knocking it out of the sky. Destoroyah reformed into its aggregate form. Destoroyah pinned Junior under its sharp legs and bit into his neck, injecting him with micro-oxygen. Not willing to die like this, Junior blasted Destoroyah's claws off with his atomic breath, sending the monster reeling in pain. Unrelenting, Junior fired his atomic breath directly at Destoroyah, sending it flying into a refinery and causing it to be consumed in a fiery explosion.
Godzilla soon arrived in Tokyo as well and called to Junior. Junior called back and prepared to meet his father near Haneda airport. Before the two monsters could finally embrace, Destoroyah flew out of the burning factory in its final form and knocked Godzilla over. It then grabbed Junior and lifted him high in the air, then dropped him onto the airport. Destoroyah then blasted Junior with its micro-oxygen beam, leaving Junior fatally wounded. After temporarily defeating Destoroyah, Godzilla approached his fallen son. Barely clinging to life, Junior opened his eyes and looked up at his father. Godzilla tried to breathe energy into Junior, but to no effect. Junior closed his eyes and died, sending Godzilla into a blind rage. Godzilla fought Destoroyah with all he had in order to avenge his son, and Destoroyah was finally killed by the combined efforts of Godzilla and G-Force. His son's killer dead, Godzilla stood still in solitude as his heart overloaded and he melted away and died. Using freezer weapons, G-Force prevented Godzilla's meltdown from destroying the world, but could not stop catastrophic levels of radiation from being released into Tokyo. Suddenly, all of the radiation disappeared, as if it had been absorbed. Through the smoke, Junior was visible, revived into an adult Godzilla by his father's dying act. The new Godzilla roared loudly, ready to take is father's place as King of the Monsters.
- Telepathy - Godzilla Junior is capable of telepathic communication with Godzilla, Rodan, and Miki Saegusa.
- Radiation Absorption - Junior is capable of absorbing radiation that he is exposed to. Exposure to Godzilla's radiation mutated Junior from a dinosaur hatchling inti a young Godzilla. Exposure to the uranium explosion on Birth Island turned Junior into a sub-adult Godzilla, and exposure to the radiation released by Godzilla at his death revived Junior and turned him into the new Godzilla.
- Atomic Breath - As Little Godzilla, Junior can spit a stream of atomic "bubbles." As a sub-adult, Junior spits a stronger atomic heat beam that is still not as powerful or fully formed as Godzilla's.
- Regeneration - Like Godzilla, Godzilla Junior possesses the capacity to regenerate wounds fairly quickly. Junior healed from a deep bite wound in his neck inflicted by Destoroyah in a matter of hours. After absorbing Godzilla's radiation, Junior was able to actually rise from the dead.
Junior's biggest disadvantage is that he is small and easy prey for larger and more fearsome monsters. Godzilla's enemies will often use Junior as a way to attack Godzilla emotionally. SpaceGodzilla captured Junior in a crystal prison, while Destoroyah killed him right in front of Godzilla. Junior also is not nearly as strong as his father and can be fatally wounded by other monsters' attacks.
BabyGodzillaEditAfter hatching, Junior is called BabyGodzilla and stands 1.64 meters tall, 3.53 meters long, and weighs 420 kilograms.
Little GodzillaEditAfter being exposed to Godzilla's radiation, Junior grows into a toddler and is known as Little Godzilla. Little Godzilla is 30 meters tall, 35 meters long, and weighs 8,000 tons.
Godzilla JuniorEditAfter the Birth Island explosion, Junior grows into a sub-adult. Godzilla Junior is 40 meters tall, 80 meters long, and weighs 15,000 tons.
Godzilla (Rebirth)EditAfter absorbing his father's radiation, Junior is resurrected as an adult Godzilla. As an adult, Junior is presumably 100 meters tall, 212.5 meters long, and weighs 60,000 tons, just like his father.
- Godzilla Junior is heavily based on the concept of Minilla from the Showa series, a young member of Godzilla's species that Godzilla finds and adopts as a son. Godzilla Junior, however, looks much more like Godzilla than Minilla does.
- The original draft of Godzilla: Final Wars was to continue the Heisei series and feature the adult Godzilla Junior as the film's incarnation of Godzilla. Godzilla's final enemy would be Destoroyah, giving him the opportunity to get revenge on Destoroyah for killing him earlier. The finished film makes no mention of the Heisei series and the version of Godzilla present has no connection to Godzilla Junior.
