Giant-kin

In Dungeons & Dragons, giant-kin is a term used to describe humanoid species that are distantly related to giants. Any race that could trace its roots back to the pairing of the deities Othea and Ulutiu were considered giant-kin.

History[]

Othea, the mother of all giants, cheated on her husband Annam All-Father with Ulutiu, thus leading to the conception of several giant-kin races: firbolg, fomorian, verbeeg and voadkyn. Othea's unfaithfulness did not stop with Ulutiu, either; she would also have an affair with Vaprak the Destroyer, a demigod of greed and destruction. This pairing would give rise to the cyclopes, ogres and trolls.

Giant-kin are looked down upon with disdain by true giants, who name these distant cousins as maug, which means "dishonourable" in the giant tongue.
