A gargantuan creature the size of a moon and coloured a rusty shade of orange, Ghroth sports a single enormous red eye, which it is capable of closing to avoid detection by any nearby hostile entities. It spends eternity simply drifting throughout the cosmos, all the while singing it's song, the Music of the Spheres.
Whenever Ghroth nears a planet, any dormant Great Old One or Outer God on the world will respond to its song and awaken, an act which almost invariably results in the destruction of the planet, the annihilation of all of its life, or both. Because of this, Ghroth has earned the moniker Nemesis and has been blamed for the periodic mass extinctions that have plagued the Earth throughout its history, including the K-T Event which ended the reign of the dinosaurs. Ghroth is also suspected of being indirectly responsible for the fate of the planet Shaggai, by awakening the Great Old One known as The Worm that Gnaws in the Night, who proceeded to consume the world from the inside out.
- The Tugging (1976), a short story by Ramsey Campbell.
- Ghroth also appeared in the Call of Cthulhu Roleplaying Game splatbook The Stars Are Right! (2004).
