Caterpie is a common variety of Bug-type Pokémon. It can be found in many parts of the world, particularly in forest areas, and is one of the fastest-evolving Pokémon known to man.
Caterpie moves around on tiny feet and these feet have suction cups that allow it to easily climb trees. The red feelers on its head emit a foul-smelling pheromone whenever it is threatened by predators. Its large eyes also serve to warn off enemies. When such deterrents fail, Caterpie will hide in nearby foliage and attempt to camouflage itself.
Caterpie is known for its voracious appetite. It will often eat leaves twice as big as its own body and after its appetite is sated it will shed its skin. It molts several times before it evolves to its next phase.
Caterpie has a very limited range of abilities and cannot learn any techniques from Technical Machines.
- Tackle - A full-bodied charge attack. Given Caterpie's small size, this attack isn't very effective against larger Pokémon.
- String Shot - Caterpie shoots strands of silk to slow and trap enemies.
Caterpie evolves into Metapod when it reaches Level 7. When it is time to evolve, it will wrap its body in its own silk which then quickly molds and hardens into a cocoon.
