Beast Man (Beastkeeper of Savage Monsters & Wild Beasts)

Beast Man is a ferocious brute of a villain from He-Man & the Masters of the Universe. He is the savage right-hand man to the Overlord of Evil, Skeletor.

Overview[]

Beast Man is a ferocious, ape-like creature who possesses great physical strength, but is lacking in intellect. Throughout the MotU franchise, he has been portrayed as a member of the Evil Warriors and Skeletor's chief henchman. He was responsible for taking care of the various war beasts kept within Snake Mountain, using his natural ability to control wild animals via telepathy.

Throughout most of his incarnations, Beast Man has proven to be rather inept in his service to Skeletor. Cowardly and not very intelligent, his own incompetence has caused a number of his master's schemes to fail. He is frequently scolded and punished by Skeletor yet continues to remain pathologically loyal to the Lord of Destruction in spite of his constant abuse.

Notable Incarnations[]

Masters of the Universe minicomics[]

In the minicomics accompanying the original Masters of the Universe toyline, Beast Man was once the leader of a tribe of savage Beastmen before joining the ranks of Skeletor's Evil Warriors. Possessing great strength and low intelligence, he was always ready for a fight, though he frequently displayed acts of cowardice, especially when faced with punishment from Skeletor.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Filmation)[]

Beast Man (Beastial Being of He-Man)

In the original animated series, Beast Man served Skeletor as one of his top henchmen. Vicious and vindictive, he often resented Skeletor's leadership, yet he would remain loyal to a fault. Though he was among the strongest of the Evil Warriors and could control animals telepathically, Beast Man was often underappreciated by Skeletor. He was also rather incompetent, often making mistakes that caused his master's schemes to fail. Beast Man was in charge of maintaining Skeletor's menagerie of war beasts. With his natural animal empathy and telepathy, he was capable of controlling just about any non-sapient creature.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Mike Young Productions)[]

Beastman (Monstrous Minion of Skeletor)

In the 2002 animated series, Beast Man retained the core qualities of his 1983 incarnation. He was among the largest and strongest of the Evil Warriors but wasn't very bright and his incompetence often made him the target of Skeletor's anger. He had a noticeable animosity towards Evil-Lyn; the two would often bicker and insult one another when in each other's presence and Evil-Lyn would show clear disdain if Skeletor ever favored one of Beast Man's ideas over her own. He maintains a bestiary beneath the caverns of Snake Mountain as beastmaster and gamekeeper where he kept cages full of savage monsters and wild beasts to do his bidding. With his telepathic control over wild creatures, Beast Man can summon and command his army of war beasts like Griffins, Shadow Beasts and Serpintaurs to attack his enemies at will.

Masters of the Universe Classics[]

In this 2008 toyline, Beast Man was given an updated character profile. His true name was Raqquill Rqazz and he once lived in Eternia's Vine Jungle. He would be cast out of his tribe after a failed attempt to seize power and fled to the Berserker Islands. One day, the power-hungry alchemist Keldor - the man who would one day become Skeletor - invaded the islands and Beast Man, recognizing the power that Keldor wielded, pledged his allegiance to him and vowed to aid him in his conquest of Eternia.

Beast Man has remained a devoted servant of Skeletor for years, despite having to endure terrible abuse whenever the evil overlord's plans are thwarted by He-Man and his allies. But no matter how much the insults and beatings hurt, Beast Man's loyalty does not waver.

Personality[]

Beast Man is savage and highly aggressive. He is not especially bright and frequently makes mistakes, earning him Skeletor's wrath. Despite how often he becomes the target of Skeletor's rage, Beast Man remains pathologically loyal to him.

Abilities[]

  • Brute Strength - Beast Man is perhaps the physically strongest of Skeletor's Evil Warriors.
  • Animal Control - Beast Man is capable of telepathically commanding wild animals and monsters to obey him. He uses this power to manipulate creatures of the wild to attack his foes or to protect him.

Weapons[]

  • Whip - Beast Man's signature weapon is a three-tailed whip which he uses both in battle and as a means of pacifying the creatures under his command. He can run a current through the whip to electrocute and stun victims.
